DON’T TRY to tell Cameron Dicker (The Kicker) there’s not enough “foot” in American football (Chargers).
I don’t know if President Donald Trump is familiar with the origins of the sport variously called “soccer” or “football.” I’m not sure if he’s more knowledgeable about Cameron Dicker, either.
You may have heard that the Man in the White House has said that what the NFL plays should not be called “football,” because “real” football is played almost exclusively with the foot.
Well, maybe. First of call, the term “soccer” refers to “association football,” meaning a team (or teams) that played football under the rules of the Football Association (FA), as distinguished from “rugby” football.
The term evolved into “soccer” or (don’t giggle) “assoccer.” So, in some parts of the world it’s called football and in others, soccer.
As for the role of the foot in “American football,” don’t try to tell the Rams or Chargers that kicking is irrelevant. The Rams would have been in the Super Bowl last year if not for kicking mishaps against the Eagles, and without Cameron Dicker (the Kicker) the Bolts would likely be 4-9 instead of 9-4.
So, in the words of that famous soccer player, Mao Tse Tung (or Mao Zedong) “let a thousand flowers bloom.” Or, as Mad Magazine once wrote, “There’s a soccer born every minute.”

Imagine if Obama had suggested that American football should be renamed….
The Australian national team is nicknamed the Socceroos, by the way.
