A Garden Grove police officer is in critical condition at a local hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while he was chasing a man armed with a knife.
According to the GGPD, the incident occurred around 12:05 a.m. Sunday in the area of Brookhurst Street and Stanford Avenue.
Officers were attempting to detain a man armed with a knife who was involved in an altercation considered an assault with a deadly weapon.
The suspect, according to the GGPD, ignored officers’ commands and began to run, starting a foot pursuit. During that chase, one of the officers was struck by an unrelated vehicle that was traveling on Brookhurst.
The suspect was caught and taken into custody.
Involved in the arrest, investigation and getting the injured GGPD officer to the hospital were Anaheim Police Department, Orange Police Department and the California Highway Patrol.
