Man rescued from fast water

ORANGE COUNTY Fire Authority crews rescue man from water in storm drain (OCFA/Traffic News LA).

A man who fell into a section of a culvert in Westminster filled with cold, fast-moving water was rescued on Sunday afternoon by the Orange County Fire Authority.

According to the OCFA, the man was clinging to a section of the culvert in a storm channel at Bolsa Avenue and Goldenwest Street.

The OCFA’s Emergency Command Center launched a swift water rescue response, including helicopter and technical rescue crews.

Firefighters who arrived first lowered inflated fire hoses over the edge to “capture” the victim in case he should lose his grip. A truck’s aerial ladder was positioned over the storm drain, allowing technical rescue firefighters to lower a rescuer, secure the victim and lift him to safety.

He was assessed by firefighter paramedics and then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Assisting the OCFA were the Huntington Beach Fire Department and Westminster Police Department.
