Second in a series looking back on news events in 2025 in the cities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.  These are for the months of April, May and June.

No one is above the law, we have been told. In 2025, there were two well-publicized examples of that. An Orange County judge was convicted of killing his wife and a county supervisor sent to federal prison in a bribery scheme involving money meant to feed the elderly.  Here’s a brief recap of this quarter of 2025.

APRIL: A teenage boy was arrested and accused of killing a Garden Grove man in El Monte …. A Garden Grove woman was arrested on charges of felony child abuse of her infant child …. The Garden Grove Planning Commission approved a major expansion of the In-N-Out burger restaurant at Trask Avenue and Magnolia Street ….. A request for a new hearing on Huntington Beach’s fight with the State of California over housing requirements was rejected by a state court….

An Orange County judge was convicted of murdering his wife … A Garden Grove native – U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield – was fired from her job reportedly for advocating “diversity” in the Navy … An Orange County Superior Court Judge upheld Huntington Beach’s voter ID requirement …

MAY: The Marina High Vikings won the CIF-SS Division 3 softball championship, defeating Westlake, 8-1 … Huntington Beach and Garden Grove were cited as among the “best places to raise a family” by the marketing firm wallethub.com … The 2025 Strawberry Festival honored “diversity” and had civil rights pioneer Sylvia Mendez as its parade grand marshal …The Los Angeles Angels swept the Dodgers in a three-game series in Anaheim … An 89-unit townhouse project was approved by the Westminster City Council for construction on the grounds of the (now-closed) Westminster Mall …

A fire at a home in Stanton inflicted an estimated $645,000 in damage … A Stanton man was killed in a head-on crash. The driver of the car that hit his was arrested on a DUI charge …

JUNE:  The Westminster City Council approved the city budget on a 3-0 tally, with two members “absent and not voting” …The Stanton City Council approved the hiring of a “retail coach” to provide retail market analysis and retail recruitment services … The Huntington Beach City council agreed with a “demand letter” from the ACLU urging them to not repeat alleged violations of a state open meetings law …

Huntington Beach voters approved two measures rejecting actions by the city council regarding the city library system … Former Garden Grove City Councilmember and Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do was sentenced to five years in federal prison for his involvement in a bribery scandal … A Huntington Beach man was arrested for the fatal shooting of a Huntington Beach woman …
