According to the staff report from Police Chief Darin Lenyi, overall crime declined by 17.33 percent in 2025, compared to 2024.

Violent crime generally – including homicide (murder), rape, robbery and aggravated assault – fell by 9.46 percent.

However, rape was up by 45.83 percent, up from 24 reported incidents to 35.
Homicides were down from four to three.

Property crime was down 18.56 percent. The only category up was arson, with an increase of 33.33 percent (15 incidents to 20).

In the report, Chief Lenyi wrote, “The City of Westminster’s overall crime reduction … deflects the continued efforts of the …. department … and its community members to enhance public safety.”

On the increase in reported rapes, he wrote that the WPD is “fully aware of this trend and is working diligently … to address and reduce these numbers.

The council will meet in its chambers at 6 p.m. at 8200 Westminster Boulevard.
