A traffic accident in Anaheim on Sunday morning has led to the death of one of the motorists and the arrest of the other.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, Daniel Ramos, 24, of Riverside was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
At about 2:09 a.m. Anaheim police officers and personnel from Anaheim Fire and Rescue responded to the intersection of North Anaheim Boulevard and the Riverside (State Highway 91) Freeway frontage road regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon arrival, they found a pregnant female passenger trapped inside a Toyota sedan.
Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota and two passengers from a Lexus sedan driven by Ramos were taken to area trauma centers with injuries that were considered not to be life-threatening.
According to Sgt. Eric Anderson, the preliminary investigation indicated that the Toyota was traveling southbound on Anaheim Boulevard and entered the intersection when it was struck by the Lexus which was traveling eastbound on the frontage road and didn’t stop for a red traffic signal.
Ramos, according to police, exhibited objective signs and symptoms of impairment of alcohol or drugs, and was taken unto custody.
The victim’s identity is not being released at this time. The APD is continuing its investigation.
