Rev. Jesse Jackson, a long-time advocate for civil rights as well as the interests of the poor and unhoused, died on Tuesday at the age of 84.

The Associated Press is reporting that Jackson, a protege of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., had died of a “rare physiological disorder” in his Chicago home.

Jackson sought to claim the mantle of leader of the Civil Rights movement after King was fatally shot at a Memphis motel in 1968.

Jackson ran for president several times, losing the Democratic presidential nomination to Michael Dukakis in 1988.

Among Jackson’s speech refrains was “I am Somebody. I may be poor, but I am Somebody; I may be on welfare, but I am Somebody.”

Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama said “Reverend Jackson helped lead some of the most significant movements for change in human history.”

Seizure of election materials based “on a lie?”

Voting officials in Fulton County, Georgia, are alleging that the warrant used to seize 2020 election materials were based on a lie.

United Press International reports that those officials have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of Northern Georgia that the search warrant was based “not on probable cause of a crime being committed” but instead of speculation based on minor election errors that occurs in all jurisdictions.

The allegations come from Kurt Olsen, a former campaign attorney for now-President Donald Trump. Olsen, according to the lawsuit, has been sanctioned by “multiple courts from making unsubstantiated claims about elections.

Georgia was narrowly won by Joe Biden in the 2020 election, and Trump asked the Georgia governor to “find” enough votes to give the victory to him.
