Three males try to steal mail

CYPRESS POLICE pull over suspect vehicle (CPD photo).

Gangs might be scary but they can’t outsmart vigilant Cypress residents and the Cypress Police Department.

Night patrol officers on Monday night responded to a report of people breaking into mailboxes and stealing mail in the area of Orange Avenue and Denni Street.

Responding officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle within minutes. There they found the vehicle was occupied by three documented gang members.

A search of the vehicle turned up backpacks of stolen mail from Cypress residents, as well as a loaded revolver and a quantity of methamphetamine.

Not only would those arrested face vandalism and theft charges, but stealing from the U.S. Postal Service puts you on Uncle Sam’s bad side. Federal law makes mail theft punishable by fines up to $250,000 and imprisonment for up to five years, according to 18 U.S. Code Section 1708.
