A fire at a two-story home in Westminster claimed a life on Tuesday night.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the blaze was reported at around 7:20 p.m. in the 6200 block of Apache Road, southwest of Garden Grove Boulevard and Edwards Street.

Arriving crews saw heavy flames from the house and witnesses said a person was trapped inside. Firefighters were unable to find the person, who was found dead inside the building after the fire was extinguished.

The person’s identity was not revealed pending notification of the next of kin.

An elderly woman who was outside the home upon the arrival of firefighters was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and burns.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
