Murder, travel scam suspects in court

A MURDER SUSPECT from Huntington Beach and a Garden Grove travel agent will each have pre-trial hearings Monday morning (OC Tribune photo).

A pre-trial hearing is set for Monday morning in Santa Ana for a man accused of the stabbing murder of a Huntington Beach in 2013. According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Rito Samuel Tejeda is charged with the slaying of Frederick Sledge, 51, on Oct. 23, 2013. Tejeda is accused of repeatedly stabbing the victim in his apartment, and then fleeing the scene on foot, covered in blood.

An off-duty officer spotted the suspect walking in the area of Knoville Avenue and Knoxville Street and called the Huntington Beach Police Department. Tejeda was taken to a local hospital for treatment of superficial wounds. Investigators located the victim in a nearby apartment.

The hearing is set for 9 a.m. in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

TRAVEL AGENCY SCAM SUSPECT IN COURT

A man accused of scamming customers of his travel agency out of about $40,000 will be in court Monday in Westminster, according to the Orange County District Attorney.

Abdel Luis Rojas, proprietor of AGS Travels in Garden Grove, allegedly accepted payment from at least 11 different clients between Jan. 15 and July 9, 2016 to cover the cost of airline tickets, hotels and other travel arrangements and pocketing the money without providing any services.

Several of the victims reported this to the Garden Grove Police Department, who investigated the case and arrested the defendant on Aug. 9, 2016.

The hearing will be held at West Justice Center at 8:30 a.m.
