
THE ANAHEIM DUCKS snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday, while Edison swept Huntington Beach to advance to the state volleyball title game.
The Anaheim Ducks ended a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center. Ryan Getzlaf scored one goal and had an assist, while Jonathan Beiner had 21 saves in goal.
After falling behind 1-0 early, the Ducks (10-8-4) got the equalizer from Ryan Garbutt to tie it up. Anaheim went ahead on a tally by Rickard Rakell in the second period.
The Sharks answered with a goal, but Getzlaf won it at 12:59 of the second with his eighth tally of the season on a power play.
Anaheim will next face the Montreal Canadiens (16-4-2) on Tuesday at Honda Center.
EDISON SPIKES THE OILERS, ON TO STATE FINAL
The Edison High girls volleyball team defeated Huntington Beach High 3-0 in the CIF SoCal Regional Division 1 final Saturday to advance to the state finals .
The Chargers will take on Menlo-Atherton next Friday at Santiago Canyon College. Edison won the games 25-18, 25-21 and 25-13 for the sweep. Hannah Phair had 17 kills for Edison.
SEAHAWKS WIN, VIKINGS FALL
Ocean View High School’s boys basketball team jumped out to a 20-2 first quarter edge and never looked back as the Seahawks defeated Laguna Hills 78-46 Saturday. OV was led by Vincent Calazzo and Paul Head, who each had 12 points.
Also, Marina was edged 64-62 by Segerstrom. The Vikings got 17 points from Jakob Alamudun.
TOURNAMENTS START ON MONDAY
A fistful of prep basketball tournaments will start on Monday involving local teams. The boys events are:
- Godinez (involving Santiago High)
- Los Amigos: (Pacifica and Orange)
For the girls, there is the Oxford Academy event, involving La Quinta and Orange.
