A MAN  is in critical condition after being shot by a Huntington Beach police officer.

A MAN is in critical condition after being shot by a Huntington Beach police officer.

A man was reported in critical condition after being shot by a Huntington Beach police officer Monday night. According to the HBPD, the man was shot when officers came upon him standing over an “unresponsive” woman and holding a knife.

The suspect was “uncooperative with the officers’ commands” and several shots were fired at him. He was taken to an area hospital where was listed in critical conditions.

The incident took place around 10:21 p.m. at 21871 Newland St. Police were summoned by a woman who had called 911 to ask for medical treatment of a man she believed was suffering from a drug overdose.

As is the protocol in all officer-involved shootings, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
