Ducks rally to defeat Colorado 2-1

Scoring twice in the third period, the Anaheim Ducks came from behind to defeat the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 Thursday at Honda Center. Trailing 1-0 after two periods, the home team tied it at 7:17 with a power play goal by Hampus Lindholm, and won it with Nick Richie’s tally at the 17:58 mark.

SportsbriefsThe win improved the Ducks’ record to 26-13-9, worth 61 points and first place in the NHL Pacific Division. The victory was Anaheim’s eighth win in 11 games.

John Gibson again excelled in goal, making 31 stops for the Ducks.

Next up for Anaheim on the schedule is on Saturday in Minnesota against the Wild. That’s the team to beat the Ducks in regulation time, two weeks prior.

LATEST CIF RANKINGS

Here are polls and rankings from the CIF-SS for local teams.

On the boys’ basketball Open Division watch list is Edison. Ocean View is 14th in Division 3AA, while Pacifica is 14th in 3A. Bolsa Grande is 14th in Division 4AA.

On the girls’ basketball side, Orangewood Academy is on the watch list for the Open Division, and is also ranked fourth in D-1A. Pacifica is second in Division 3AA and La Quinta is tied for 13th in Division 4AA.

In boys’ soccer, Edison is ninth is Division 1 and Santiago is second in Division 2. Garden Grove is top-ranked in D-4. On the girls’ side, Edison is sixth in Division 6. s

In girls’ water polo, Huntington Beach is eighth. Garden Grove is third in Division 6.
