
POLICE are seeking witnesses to an accident in Garden Grove which led to the death of a pedestrian Saturday night.
UPDATE: The man who suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a car in Garden Grove on Saturday night has been identified. According to the Orange County Coroner’s office, the man is Santiago Sanchez-Mendez, 50, of Garden Grove.
A man walking across Haster Street in Garden Grove was fatally injured Saturday night when struck by an automobile. According to police, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the 12500 block of Haster Street near Lampson Avenue.
Indications are that the motorist was turning north onto Haster from Lampson when his vehicle struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk. He suffered what were described as “life-threatening” injuries, and was treated at the scene by Garden Grove Fire Department paramedics before being transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 8:52 p.m.
The investigation into the accident continues and it doesn’t appear that alcohol or drugs were involved in the conduct of the driver. Witnesses to the collision are asked to call the GGPD at (714) 741-5704.
