Jakob Silfverberg and the Anaheim Ducks both made impressive comebacks in the team’s 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday night. Silfverberg returned from a concussion, which sidelined him since Jan. 19, and scored two goals and got an assist in the win at Honda Center.
The Ducks, like the rest of the league, are back from a lengthy All-Star break layoff. The win put the team’s record at 28-15-9, worth 65 points. That puts the Orange County squad in second place in the NHL Pacific Division, just one point back of San Jose (32-17-2).
Other Ducks scores were by Rickard Rakell and Cam Fowler. John Gibson had 28 saves in goal and improved his personal mark to 20-11-8. Anaheim is next in action on Friday visiting the Florida Panthers (22-19-10, 54 points).
OILERS KEEP PACE WITH GRIFFS
The Huntington Beach High girls’ basketball team stayed even with Los Alamitos in the Sunset League race with its 67-36 win over Edison Tuesday night. The Oilers (6-1 in league and 16-7 overall) led only by a margin of 32-27 at halftime, but outscored the visiting Chargers (3-4, 12-10) by 35-9 in the second half.
Frankie Wade Sanchez led HBHS with 20 points, followed by Kaylyn Nakaji with 15. It was the Oilers’ seventh straight victory. Los Al is also 6-1 in league, but is 17-5 overall.
