EDISON’S BOYS’ BASKETBALL team survived a close game, and the Anaheim Ducks lost 2-1.

Edison High’s perfect Sunset League season survived a strong upset bid by Newport Harbor Friday night in prevailing 62-60 in boys’ basketball at the Charger gym. In a game that was close throughout, the Chargers hung on for the victory, paced by Randall Walker’s 24 points.

sportsbriefsThe win put EHS at 8-0 in league, and 21-3 overall. The Sailors fell to 3-5 and 14-10.

Andrew Brown scored 19 for Pacifica as the Mariners lost 57-41 to Empire League leader Tustin. The M’s fell to 1-6 in league and 14-9 overall.

DUCKS FALL TO THE PANTHERS, 2-1

The Anaheim Ducks lost 2-1 to the Florida Panthers Friday night at the BB&T Center.

anaheim-ducks-logo1Hampus Lindholm got the Ducks a lead at 9:39 of the first period, but that was all the scoring the visitors could muster. After Reilly Smith tied it in the first period for Florida, the game-winner came from Jonathan Huberdeau at the 15:02 mark of the second period.

The Ducks fell to 28-16-9, good for second place in the NHL Pacific. Next up for Anaheim will be Sunday against the Tampa Bay Lightning (22-24-6).
