With most of their regulars on the bench, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim started their spring training Cactus League season Saturday with a 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in Tempe, Ariz.
The Halos used seven pitchers, none of them household names. They yielded four runs. The win went to Brooks Pounders, who worked two innings and gave up no hits. He walked one batter.
At bat and in the field, the Angels ran 19 players through the game and totaled five hits. Ben Revere stood out at the plate, with one hit in one at-bat, driving in a run. The Angels scored one run in the third and another in the seventh.
Next up for the Halos is a game Sunday against the Oakland A’s.
OILERS ADVANCE TO SOCCER SEMIFINALS
The Huntington Beach High girls’ soccer team advanced to the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals with a win over Chino Hills on Friday. The match was tied 2-2 in regular time and after two scoreless overtimes, was decided in a shootout.
Oiler goalie Rachel Harris made three saves in the regular game, and four stops in the shootouts. Alijah Oliver scored twice in the regular game, and once in the shootout. Cina Wilson had a shootout tally as well.
Huntington next will host JSerra on Tuesday. The championship finals are March 3 or 4.
