
HUNTINGTON BEACH HIGH’S girls’ basketball team will play in the CIF-SS Division 1 title game this weekend against Bishop Montgomery High of Torrance after defeating Esperanza 42-29 on Saturday.
Huntington Beach High’s girls’ basketball team rode into the CIF-SS Division 1 finals on a strong defense and the scoring of Frankie Wade Sanchez. The Oilers (22-7) defeated Esperanza 42-29 Saturday in a semi-final contest. Wade scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The orange-and-black will face Bishop Montgomery in the finals on Friday or Saturday. The Knights are 22-7 and defeated King High of Riverside 63-47 in the other semifinal.
HBHS broke out to an early 11-4 first quarter lead and put the game away with a 12-6 fourth quarter edge. The team is on a 15-game winning streak.

Baseball and softball play for teams in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area began on Saturday, with a bunch of non-league and tournament games played.
