Angels win, Ducks lose, Cavs are upset

THE ANGELS defeated the Dodgers 3-1 in the first game of the exhibition Freeway Series Thursday in Anaheim.

A seventh-inning rally by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lifted the Halos to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night in the first game of the exhibition Freeway Series at the Big A.

The game was a scoreless tie until the Angels pushed across three runs in the seventh on a double by C.J. Cron and a single by Cameron Maybin. It was the Angels’ 14th win in their last 16 Freeway games at home; two contests were ties. The Series continues Friday at 7 p.m. in Anaheim. The regular season will begin on Monday.

One game after the victory that clinched their fifth-straight Stanley Cup playoffs berth, the Anaheim Ducks lost a two-goal lead and ultimately the game, 4-3, to the Jets in Winnipeg.

On two goals by Corey Perry and one by Jakob Silfverberg, the Orange County team held a 3-1 edge in the second period but was unable to hang on, finally losing in overtime.

Despite the loss, the Ducks remain in first in the NHL Pacific Division with a 42-23-12 mark worth 96 points. That’s one point ahead of the Edmonton Oilers.
