
THE ANGELS defeated the Dodgers 3-1 in the first game of the exhibition Freeway Series Thursday in Anaheim.
A seventh-inning rally by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lifted the Halos to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night in the first game of the exhibition Freeway Series at the Big A.
The game was a scoreless tie until the Angels pushed across three runs in the seventh on a double by C.J. Cron and a single by Cameron Maybin. It was the Angels’ 14th win in their last 16 Freeway games at home; two contests were ties. The Series continues Friday at 7 p.m. in Anaheim. The regular season will begin on Monday.
DUCKS FLY LOWER IN WINNIPEG
One game after the victory that clinched their fifth-straight Stanley Cup playoffs berth, the Anaheim Ducks lost a two-goal lead and ultimately the game, 4-3, to the Jets in Winnipeg.
On two goals by Corey Perry and one by Jakob Silfverberg, the Orange County team held a 3-1 edge in the second period but was unable to hang on, finally losing in overtime.
Despite the loss, the Ducks remain in first in the NHL Pacific Division with a 42-23-12 mark worth 96 points. That’s one point ahead of the Edmonton Oilers.
ARGOS STUN CAVS IN LEAGUE OPENER
The Garden Grove High softball team pulled off the upset of the softball season by defeated a previously unbeaten Santiago High team 3-0 Thursday afternoon at the Argo diamond.
Santiago came into the game – the Garden Grove League opener – ranked number one in CIF-SS Division 6 and a 15-0 mark. The contest was a scoreless tie until Grove scored three runs in the top of the seventh.
