On to Nashville! Or, more accurately, bring on the Nashville Predators to play for the Western Conference title of the NHL. The Anaheim Ducks earned that right Wednesday when they defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 at Honda Center in the seventh game of their second round series.

The Ducks will host the Preds on Friday and Sunday, with the series shifting to Tennessee on Tuesday (May 16) for two games.

Anaheim’s emotional win came on goals by Andrew Cogliano and Nick Ritchie, whose score 3:21 into the third period was the game-winner. John Gibson again shone in goal, making 23 saves.

The win snapped a string of four straight Game Seven losses for the Ducks. “It feels good,” said Ducks captain, Ryan Getzlaf, who had played in all four of those contests. “We grinded hard tonight. Hard-fought series. I’m glad we were able to come out on top.”

TWO LOCALS ADVANCE IN CIF TENNIS

Teams from Fountain Valley and Garden Grove high schools advanced in the first round of CIF-SS boys’ tennis playoff matchups on Wednesday.

In Division 2 play, the Barons defeated Poly High of Long Beach 17-1 while the Argonauts bested Mayfair 11-7. In Division 4, Bolsa Grande fell to Mission Viejo 15-3.
