GG man, 51, is killed in hit-and-run

A 51-YEAR-OLD Garden Grove man died after being hit by a car Friday night in which police say is a “hit-and-run” incident.

UPDATE: The suspect in Friday’s fatal hit-and-run accident has been identified by Garden Grove police. According to Lt. Carl Whitney of the GGPD, he is Jahmaree Kevin Michael Woodson-Desett. 20 years old. His last known address was in Los Angeles. He was booked into Orange County Jail.

A car jumped a curb and fatally struck a man Friday night in Garden Grove. According to police, the incident took place around 8 p.m. at Chapman Avenue and Euclid Street.

The victim, according to the Orange County Coroner’s office, was James Crosby, 51, of Garden Grove. Arrested was a 21-year-old man, not yet identified. Interview with witnesses indicated that an automobile moving eastbound on Chapman rode up over a curb and hit a man standing by a traffic signal.

The motorist then was seen running from the scene and was apprehended by police about a half-mile from the scene. He is suspected of driving under the influence of an illegal substance or alcohol.

As for the pedestrian, police officers administered emergency aid until paramedics arrived. He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he succumbed to his injuries at 9:28 p.m.

  1. Why did you describe the arrested man as a “black” man. No mention of the victims race.

    • Good question. Police have not identified the suspect yet. They are looking for witnesses to the incident and the alleged flight of the suspect. They’re looking for anyone who may have seen a man meeting the suspect’s description running by. A mention of his race might be useful to potential witnesses.

    • My guess: The suspect, not providing his identity, maybe the police hope someone is missing someone of that description who was driving in that area at that time(?)
