A GUNMAN was killed by police after shooting several people – including a Congressman – at a baseball practice near Washington. D.C.
A 66-year-old Illinois man shot several people at a Republican Congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning, and was in turn killed by police. Authorities say that James T. Hodgkinson opened fire on the baseball field near the nation’s capital and shot several people, including House Republican whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana. His wounds are not considered life threatening.
A total of five people were wounded, including one police officer.
The Associated Press is reporting that Hodgkinson had been a volunteer in the presidential election campaign of Bernie Sanders, who quickly condemned the attack. The gunman had a history of run-ins with the law, including drunk driving, battery and resisting arrest. He reportedly belonged to a Facebook group called “Terminate the Republican Party.”
The practice was being held to prepare for the annual game between Congressional Republicans and Democrats.
