TGIF: Bad guys, “Moana” and dance music

DANIEL CRAIG stars in “Logan Lucky,” opening in local cinemas this weekend.

Ah, the weather is cooling off a bit. Are we getting an early autumn, or just a pause before that late summer heat wave hits us? Either way, here are some fun things to do or see in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area.

Opening in local cinemas this week:

  • “Logan Lucky.” James Bond (Daniel Craig) doing comedy? A caper movie starring Craig, Channing Tatum and Adam Driver about a plot to pull a heist at a stock car race. Rated PG-13.
  • “The Hitman’s Bodyguard.” A hitman (Samuel L. Jackson) needs a bodyguard (Ryan Reynolds) to keep him alive to testify against a dictator (Gary Oldman). Rated R.

The Huntington Beach Concert Band will play on Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Central Park. The theme is “Shall We Dance?” Professional dancers will perform, and free dance lessons will be given from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m.

“Henry IV” will open at the Festival Amphitheater on Main Street in Garden Grove Friday night. Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. with shows through Aug. 26. It’s produced by Shakespeare Orange County.

An outdoor family movie night will be presented on Thursday at the Westminster Civic Center, featuring the animated Disney film “Moana!” The film will be screened in the sunken gardens in the civic center, located at 8200 Westminster Blvd. Pre-movie events will start at 6:30 p.m., with games, face-painting and a special visit and pictures with characters Moana and Maui at 6:45 p.m. The showing of the film will start shortly after sunset.
