TGIF: Elvis and Shakespeare are big

FREE performances by Elvis tribute artists will be part of the fun at Sunday’s Elvis Festival on Main Street in Garden Grove (Orange County Tribune photo).

Football is taking over a lot of the entertainment spotlight this weekend, with high school and pro games to attend and watch. But there’s still a nice selection of fun to be had this weekend in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster.

MOVIES 

Opening this week in local cinemas:

  • “Leap,” an animated movie about raising ballet and flying in 19th century France. Elle Fanning voices dancer Felicie.  Rated PG-13.
  • “Birth of a Dragon.” Semi-autobiographical film about the emergence of martial arts star Bruce Lee. Rated PG-13.
  • “Five Steps of Love.” Comedy-romance in Vietnamese with English subtitles.

EVENTS

The 18th annual Elvis Festival will take over Main Street in downtown Garden Grove on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be bands, Elvis tribute artists, crafts for sale, a car show and more.

  • Thursday is Huntington Beach Night at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, starting at 7:05 p.m. as the Angels take on the Texas Rangers. Admission is $22 and includes a hat and a Nolan Ryan bobble-head figure.

ON STAGE

“Henry IV, Part One” concludes this weekend at the Festival Amphitheater on Main Street in Garden Grove. Produced by Shakespeare Orange County, performances Friday and Sunday.
