Another extra-inning win Tuesday night for the Los Angeles Angels lifted the Halos into the second American League wild card spot. Ben Revere singled home Kaleb Cowart in the top of the 10th to give the Orange County team an 8-7 win over the Athletics in Oakland.
As a result of the victory, the Angels (72-67) leapfrogged over the Minnesota Twins (71-67) by a half-game. One game back of the Twins are the Baltimore Orioles (71-68). Six teams overall are within three games.
Unlike earlier games when the Angels fell behind early and had to rally for the win, this time it was the A’s who had to overcome an early three-run lead. They did, sending the game into the 10th deadlocked.
The red-hot C.J. Cron has the best day at bat, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. He had a triple and a home run. Leadoff man Brandon Phillips had two hits, drove in a run and scored one.
That win didn’t come easy as the A’s loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th but couldn’t score. The series ends Wednesday.
