Pacifica and Orange top CIF grid polls

Pacifica High’s fall sports teams continue to have an impressive season, as indicated by this week’s polls conducted by the CIF-SS and released Monday afternoon.

The Mariner football team (5-0) is ranked first in Division 10 football, and second in Division 5 boys’ water polo. PHS is the only school in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area with ranked teams in two sports.

Another local team achieving a top spot is Orange. The Panthers (5-0) are atop Division 13 football.

Here are the poll results of interest to this area.


  • Division 2: Edison is sixth. Upland is first.
  • Division 10: Pacifica is first.
  • Division 11: Westminster is 10th. Culver City is first.
  • Division 13: Orange is first. Ocean View is third and La Quinta is fifth.

BOYS’ WATER POLO (watch list)

  • Divisions 1 and 2: Huntington Beach is fourth. Mater Dei is first.
  • Division 5: Pacifica is second. Foothill Tech is first.
  • Division 7: Garden Grove is unranked but received some votes. El Rancho is first.


  • Division 9: Orangewood Academy is 10th. Santa Clara Christian is first.
