Orange High School’s football team won its first CIF-SS football title since 1929 when it defeated Silver Valley 30-20 on Saturday might at Fred Kelly Stadium.
Led by Jason Wilkinson’s 316 yards passing (good for two touchdowns), the Panthers grabbed the Division 13 title. Top receivers were Syrus Collins with 128 yards and Jordan Schmidt with 178 yards. Joseph Martinez added 63 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
OHS finished the season with a 12-2 mark, taking second place in the Golden West League behind Santa Ana. In the playoffs, the Panthers defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, Rio Hondo Prep and Santa Clara to make it to the finals.
Orange High serves much of Orange but also Garden Grove east of Haster Street.
Ducks fall in shootout to Preds
The Anaheim Ducks continued a disappointing road trip with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Nashville Predators Saturday night in Tennessee.
After a scoreless first period, the teams traded goals in the second and third periods. The Ducks got scores from Adam Henrique (his fifth of the season) and Cam Fowler (third). After a scoreless overtime, the Preds won it on goals by Kevin Fiala and Kyle Turris in the shootout. John Gibson had 33 saves in goal.
The loss – the team’s second straight – put Anaheim’s record at 11-11-5, worth 27 points and sixth place in the NHL Pacific Division. Next up for the Ducks is a game on Tuesday in Las Vegas against the Golden Knights (15-9-1).
