Garden Grove High’s boys’ basketball team clinched at least a tie for the Garden Grove League title Friday night when the Argonauts turned back a challenge from Santiago High and won 62-51.
Jordan Harris scored 16 for Grove, which improved its GGL record to 8-0, and 25-1 overall. Ricky Briseno scored 21 for the Cavaliers (4-4, 16-9). The Argonauts won their 19th straight game and are nearing a school record for most wins. The 1968-69 team posted 27 victories.
Ocean View locked up the Golden West League boys’ crown with an 87-72 win over Westminster. The Seahawks are 8-0 in league with Segerstrom and Westminster at 5-3, with two games left to play. Paul Head hit nine three-pointers for OVHS and finished with 40 points.
In the Empire League, Pacifica probably locked up a CIF-SS playoff spot with its 44-42 win over Tustin High. Andrew Brown had 14 points as the Mariners saw their record go to 6-2 in league (16-8 overall), worth second place by two games with two games to play.
