If you’re not so flush with Bitcoins that you can’t jet across the pond daily for a taste of the French café lifestyle, there are a couple of delicious options right here in Garden Grove.
E Patisserie at 12919 Main St., (north of Garden Grove Boulevard) is a charming recent edition to the downtown area, and it features a wide and moderately priced selection of pastries, lunch items –we love the ham and cheese croissant – and coffees and teas.
It’s located in what was previously the Zlakets Market and has done the former owners proud with a beautifully designed building, which has a walk-through to All About the Bride, offering beautiful bridal couture.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. What we like best about E Patisserie is its outdoor seating, which is perfect for neighborhood strollers and bicyclists like us.
Sit in the sunshine and enjoy a leisurely sip and bite and you can almost imagine yourself close to the Eiffel Tower.
E Pat is closed on Monday, but open 9-5 on Sundays, 9-8 Tuesday through Thursday and 9-9 Friday and Saturday. Call (714) 591-5859.
Another French treat is Paris Baguette. There are two of these in Garden Grove, but the newest – and our favorite – is located in The Promenade center at 9885 Chapman Ave. (west of Brookhurst Street). It’s the latest entry in the wave of appealing eateries in Garden Grove’s largest shopping center.
This a clean, modern facility with a bright cheerful ambience. Along one wall is a vast array of breads, pastries, sandwiches and desserts in the French tradition. You can choose from a wide array of coffee and tea choices. Soda options are limited.
The sandwiches are excellent but are all pre-made, so if you can’t tolerate, for example, mayonnaise, you might want to call ahead and place a special order.
In the evenings, the place is packed with students and others using the wi-fi and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Call (714) 591-5600.
