Books, signups for k-kids, music fest

OVER 1,500 books will be donated to Oak View School in Huntington Beach this week.

Over 1,500 new and slightly-used books will be donated to students at Oak View Elementary School in Huntington Beach by the Assistance League. The donation will be made officially on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 8 a.m. during a school-wide “patriotic assembly” at Oak View, located at 17241 Oak Lane. The theme is “Legacy of Literacy.”

Students, staff, families, district officials and representatives from the Assistance League will be on hand.

The school is part of the Ocean View School District, serving north Huntington Beach and portions of Fountain Valley, Westminster and Midway City.

Pre-enrollment starts in GGUSD on Wednesday

Pre-enrollment in full-day transitional kindergarten and full-day kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 28 in the Garden Grove Unified School District.

Parents are urged to pre-enroll as early as possible at https://enroll.ggusd.us and contact their child’s home school for further help. More information is available at http://www.ggusd.us/pre-enrollmentguide.

All GGUSD elementary schools will be closed during the summer and resume enrollment when the offices reopen in the fall.

The GGUSD serves most of Garden Grove and parts of Anaheim, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Stanton and Westminster.

Music festival hits the heights on March 1

The annual music festival of the Ocean View School District will be held on Thursday, March 1 at Marine View Middle School, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The festival of music from the district’s four middle schools is open to families and community members.

On the morning of the festival, at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m., student performers will preview their pieces for all fifth graders from OVSD’s 11 elementary schools. Those fifth-graders will be bused to Marine View for the performances.

Marine View is located at 5682 Tilburg Drive in Huntington Beach.
