Ducks fall on ice; Lobos on water

THE ANAHEIM DUCKS and Los Amigos girls’ water polo team each lost on Saturday.

The Arizona Coyotes used to be one of the coldest teams in the NHL, their climate notwithstanding. Now, with four wins in a row, they’re one of the hottest. The latest in their string of conquests is a 2-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks Saturday night at Gila Center in Phoenix.

In losing to the Coyotes, the Ducks (31-21-11, 73 points) tumbled into a third-place tie in the Pacific Division, tied with the Calgary Flames. The Anaheim team couldn’t solve Antti Raanta, who had 26 saves and recorded his second shutout in three games.

For Anaheim, Ryan Miller had 36 saves. Next up for the Orange County team is a game Sunday (today) in Anaheim hosting the Edmonton Oilers (26-31-4, 56 points).

Lobos lose in girls’ water polo title game

The Los Amigos High School girls’ water polo team fell 8-2 to Marymount on Saturday in the CIF-SS Division 7 title game in Irvine. The Lobos got goals from Briana Aristico and Briana Valencia. Natalie Albarran had 10 saves for Los Amigos, which finished the season with a 21-7 season record.

Also on Saturday, prep baseball and softball started for local teams. Overall s, in baseball contests for teams serving the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area, locals won six and lost seven. For baseball, the mark was 5-9.
