Thirteen elementary schools in the Garden Grove and Ocean View districts have been named California Distinguished Schools for 2018. Additionally, the Garden Grove Unified School District has been named a 2018 California Exemplary District, an honor only awarded to 22 school districts in the state.
The 11 schools cited from the GGUSD are Allen, Cook, Evans, Faylane, Murdy, Paine, Patton, Rosita, Stanford, Warren and Zeyen elementary schools. The distinguished Schools awards program alternates between recognizing elementary (K-6) and secondary (7-12) schools from year to year.
GGUSD serves most of Garden Grove as well as portions of Anaheim, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Stanton, Santa Ana and Westminster.
In the Ocean View School District, two elementary schools – Circle View and Star View – were also recognized as Distinguished Schools by the California Department of Education.
The OVSD is a K-8 district serving northern Huntington Beach as well as portions of Fountain Valley, Midway City and Westminster.
HBUHSD plans a STEAM Fair
The 2018 STEAM Fair for the Huntington Beach Union High School District will be held on Saturday, April 28 at Fountain Valley High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It will be held to showcase a wide range of interactive STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) projects such as robotics, painting with light, eSports and DNA modeling.
Participants will include students and teachers from local communities, along with more than 40 organizations including Surfrider Foundation, Microsoft and Pacific Marine Mammal Center.
