Explosion rips an industrial building

AN EXPLOSION hit two units in a commercial building in the southeast of Garden Grove early Tuesday morning (GGFD photo).

Two commercial units in an industrial park in the southeastern part of Garden Grove were hit by an explosion early Monday morning.

According to Capt. Thanh Nguyen of the Garden Grove Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at 3:41 a.m. due to a fire alarm from 10802 Capital Ave., near the city limit with Santa Ana at Euclid Street and Hazard Avenue.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system and confined to the area of origin. Investigators determined that an explosion had occurred. There was no one in the facility at the time.

In the building were chemicals used to make cosmetics. An investigation is underway and no cause has been determined. A city building inspector red-tagged the two units. Anaheim Fire and Rescue rendered assistance to the GGFD.
