EASTGATE PARK is a major community activity and gathering place in West Garden Grove (Orange County Tribune photo).
A resolution declaring the West Garden Grove area as “The West Grove District” goes before the Garden Grove City Council on Tuesday.
Councilman Kris Beard (District 1) is making the proposal, which would make that part of the city west of Western Avenue “an official Honorary Garden Grove Landmark.”
The resolution would recognize that area as a part of the city that has “long demonstrated a profound sense of community pride so distinct, they identify the area as ‘West Garden Grove’ with the affinity and the character of a small, family-oriented, hard-working, middle-class, ‘All American hometown.”
Also on Tuesday night, the council will consider amending the city’s agreement with Kam Sang Company for the construction of a Nickelodeon-themed hotel project on the west side of Harbor Boulevard at Twintree Avenue.
The revised agreement would extend the timeline for construction on the 9.08-acre site by one year, allowing time to acquire adjacent properties – including single family homes and an apartment complex – and relocate the residents.
Kam Sang will contribute $13 million in project costs: another $5 million is being sought, with possible funding from Nickelodeon.
The council meets at 6:30 pm. in its chambers in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. (at Euclid Street).
