A MENTAL HEALTH hearing is set for Thursday for a man accused of attempted carjacking and jailbreak in Garden Grove.
A man accused of trying to carjack a car in Garden Grove and who later tried to escape from the city jail will face a hearing Thursday on his mental health.
Steiner Pese Faupusa was involved in an incident on Feb. 9, 2016 in which he allegedly approached an employee outside of a Coco’s restaurant in West Garden Grove, then tried to force his way into the man’s car.
Police were called and confronted the man, who then fled on foot and boarded a bus. Officers prevented his mass transit getaway and arrested the man and took him to the city jail.
While outside his cell to be photographed and fingerprinted, Faupusa allegedly tried to leave the jail through a locked door. He then demanded that the door be unlocked and beat a jail employee, police said. A panic button brought other GGPD officers and Faupasa was restrained.
