A midday fire did an estimated $190,000 in damage to a home in Garden Grove Tuesday, summoning the efforts of 30 firefighters and displacing as many as 15 people.

According to Capt. Thanh Nguyen, the fire was reported shortly after noon in the 13700 block of Dawson Street, in an area southeast of Brookhurst Street and the Garden Grove Freeway.

It took firefighters almost an hour to get the fire under control because of “extensive structural modification.” About 15 people were living in the single-family home, but there were no injuries.

An investigation determined that the cause of the fire was a clothes dryer left on and unattended. Damage to the structure was estimated at $150,000 with $40,000 to contents. The house was deemed uninhabitable by a city building inspector.
