An off-duty Garden Grove Police Department officer was arraigned Monday for driving under the influence after he fell asleep on the 55 Freeway.
According to the Orange County District Attorney, Jared Russell Doyle, 32, faces six months in county jail if convicted of misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with blood alcohol of .08 or more.
The incident took place on May 27, 2018 at about 8 a.m. Doyle allegedly was driving on the 55 while intoxicated, his car weaving between lanes. The vehicle finally came to a stop in the middle of the freeway.
California Highway Patrol units responded to the scene and arrested Doyle, who allegedly had a blood alcohol content of .16 percent, twice the legal limit.
He was charged on July 3 and a pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 5 at Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
