107-year sentence for attacker of 5

A BUENA PARK man was sentenced to 107 years in prison for attacking five women in Garden Grove in Anaheim in 2014.

A man convicted of attacking five women in Anaheim and Garden Grove in 2014 was sentenced Thursday to 107 years and eight months to life in state prison.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Ulises Omar De La Torre, 36, of Buena Park, was convicted of nine felony counts with four sentencing enhancements on March 22.

Those included one charge of attempted murder, one of kidnapping to commit a sex offense, two of torture, two of assault with intent to commit a sexual offense, one of assault with intent to commit a sexual offense in the commission of first degree burglary, one of first degree burglary and one of assault.

De La Torre attacked the five women during a span of less than four hours on Jan. 16, 2014. The first attack took place in Garden Grove in which he sought to kidnap a woman as she walked home from work, beating her with his fists and trying to pull down her pants before fleeing.

The next attack involved De La Torre entering a second victim’s home where he stabbed her in the arm and back. The arrival of her boyfriend led to her attacker again fleeing.

The third and fourth victims were in the hallway of their Anaheim hotel room, opening the door when De La Torre forced his way in, stabbing the victims in the head, face and arms before running away.

The fifth victim was jogging in Garden Grove when De La Torre punched her, knocked her down and “repeatedly assaulted her” while pulling at her clothes. He then left the scene.

He was arrested two days later after Anaheim and Garden Grove police investigated the attacks and identified De La Torre as the suspect.
