Pedestrian killed in alleged DUI crash

A PEDESTRIAN in Huntington Beach was fatally struck Friday night by a truck driven by a man later arrested on a DUI charge.

A 51-year-man crossing a street in Huntington Beach on Friday night was fatally struck by an alleged drunk driver.

According to Sgt. Julio Mendez of the HBPD, the incident occurred around 8:55 p.m. in the area of Warner Avenue and Rotterdam Lane. Responding officers found an injured man who was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche remained at the scene and after further investigation, the 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police believe the pedestrian entered the westbound lanes of Warner and was struck by the pickup truck, which was traveling west on Warner Avenue.
