TWO TRAFFIC accidents – one on Thursday evening and one Friday morning have resulted in one fatality, three injuries and one arrest.
One person is dead, three injured and another arrested in a pair of traffic accidents in Huntington Beach Thursday evening and Friday morning.
According to Sgt. Julio Mendez of the HBPD, the first incident occurred on Thursday at about 6:45 p.m., when police were summoned to the area of Warner Avenue and Brightwater Drive regarding a traffic accident.
Arriving officers found a deceased 24-year-old man and a 31-year-man in need of medical attention. Paramedics were called and the second man was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was treated for his injuries.
Police believe that both were traveling eastbound on Warner Avenue in a 2005 Nissan Sentra when the 31-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle just east of Brightwater. The vehicle rolled over and stuck a 2002 Honda Odyssey minivan, which was traveling west on Warner.
The passenger of the Nissan was ejected from his vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. The driver was later arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The driver of the Honda, a 65-year-old woman, was injured and taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach for the treatment of minor injuries.
According to Sgt. Julio Mendez of the HBPD, the second incident occurred around 6 a.m. Friday in the area of Beach Boulevard and Ellis Avenue. A traffic accident there resulted in injuries to a woman – a pedestrian – who was treated for her injuries and then taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange for further care.
The 19-year-old driver of a 2010 Toyota Corolla was not injured and remained at the scene, cooperating with investigators.
Police believe that the pedestrian was walking east of the intersection of Ellis and Beach when she was struck by the Toyota travelling north on Beach.
In both cases, investigations are ongoing and anyone with information about the incidents are asked to call HBPD traffic investigators at (714) 536-5670 or (714) 536-5666.
