THE ANAHEIM DUCKS will open their 25th season on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Twenty-five years old. For people, that’s old enough to run for Congress, see your insurance rates fall and reflect on being a quarter of a century old.

For the Anaheim Ducks, as they open their 25th season, they hope to continue a run of very successful ice hockey in an area which hasn’t seen ice or snow since Harry Truman was running for re-election.

Established along with the Florida Panthers in one of NHL’s regular expansion spasms back in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, the team has been among the top “new” teams since the league began adding franchises in the mid-Sixties.

Overall, the team has won 909 games and lost 734, with 259 ties.  They have one Stanley Cup title (2007), and since the start of the 2013-2014 season, the Ducks have the longest active streak in the league for consecutive 100-plus point seasons, at five.

Last year, the Anaheimers posted a 44-25-13 record, worth 101 points and a second place finish in the NHL Pacific Division. The team was swept in the first round of the playoffs by the San Jose Sharks.

The 2018-19 campaign will start on Wednesday (Oct. 3) with a road game, visiting the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center. After that, the Ducks visit Arizona on Saturday and then return for their home opener at Honda Center on Monday, hosting the Detroit Red Wings.
