Panthers prowl way into CIF playoffs

WEDNESDAY and Tuesday local high school baseball and softball results.

Orange High finished third in the Orange Coast League baseball pennant after a 4-3 win over Santa Ana at the Panther field Wednesday. That’s worth a berth in the CIF-SS playoffs starting next week.

Combined with Costa Mesa’s 4-2 victory over Calvary Chapel/Santa Ana, OHS finished with a 9-6 record in the OCL (13-14 overall). That ties with Costa Mesa and Santa Ana, but the Panthers will advance because they won the season series against CMHS.

Jonny Long was a star for Orange, pitching a complete game and striking out 10 batters without yielding a walk. Jason Miranda had a key blow with a two-run double in the fourth inning for Orange.

Here are local high school baseball and softball scores from Tuesday and Wednesday. More Wednesday results will be posted as they are received.
