Clinging to her nurse, Nguyen was dragged and then run over by the speeding suspect vehicle, which fled into Los Angeles County before finally being apprehended.

A 32-year-old [Santa Ana] woman is dead and three suspects are in custody after a purse-snatching attempt in Garden Grove turned into a fatal collision, followed by a freeway chase and the arrests.

According to Lt. Carl Whitney of the GGPD, the incident took place around 9:45 a.m. in the parking lot of a shopping center in the 13900 block of Brookhurst Street near Westminster Avenue.

Three men approached a woman and tried to steal her purse. In the course of the struggle, she was run over by their car and suffered fatal injuries, dying at a local trauma center.

The suspects fled north on Brookhurst Street toward the Garden Grove Freeway.  By coincidence, undercover detectives from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department were at the site, conducting surveillance on the three, who are suspected of robberies.

The LASD gave chase and a sheriff’s helicopter followed the vehicle into Los Angeles County, where it was abandoned in the area of the 110 Freeway and Century Boulevard and were arrested shortly after.

The three suspects, described only as “male adults” were arrested and brought back to Garden Grove for questioning.
