An update on the Ascon Landfill Project will be presented by City Manager Oliver Chi at Tuesday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.
The landfill is located across on Magnolia Street across from Edison High School and the Edison Community Center.
Once a dump for oil production waste, the 38-acre site operated from 1983 to 1984 and is undergoing cleanup. Some residents have complained of doors and health hazards they feel are associated with the site and its mitigation.
Also on the agenda will be:
- an update on potential ordinances related to sober-living homes;
- the appointment of Scott Haberle as fire chief;
- introduction of an ordinance prohibiting weapons at parades and protests.
The council is meeting on a Tuesday instead of the usual Monday because Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King’s Birthday. The council meets in its chamber in the Civic Center at 2000 Main St. (at Yorktown Avenue).
The next meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 4.
