Across the Area

We’re cool and then we warm up

MARGOT ROBBIE stars in “Birds of Prey,” opening this week in local movie theaters.

Winter continues with what would be considered spring in other parts of the country. Here’s how the week looks for we lucky people in Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.

WEATHER: Last week was a fairly toasty string of days, with a temperature downturn at the end.  The drop continues this week with highs down to the low 60s by Tuesday, then a rise into the low 70s by the coming weekend.

MEETINGS: The Huntington Beach City Council will meet on Monday night with an item on the agenda about the possibility of the city joining with Irvine to form a joint powers group to get an alternative to Southern California Edison as an electricity provider. The council meets at 6 p.m.

• Consideration of a conditional use permit to allow the operation of a virtual reality experience at 12799-128019 Beach Blvd. (north of Garden Grove Boulevard at Acacia Avenue) tops the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting of the Stanton Planning Commission at 6:30 p.m.

ENTERTAINMENT: The only “major” film opening this week in local cinemas is “Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn),” a comic book movie about the Joker’s girlfriend (Harley, played by Margot Robbie) and her friends fighting crime in Gotham City. Rated R.

SPORTS: This is the final week for local high school basketball league play, with most teams wrapping up by Thursday or before. On the professional level, the Anaheim Ducks will again be on the road, not returning to Honda Center until Feb.11, when they host the St. Louis Blues.

FAIR WARNING: Valentine’s Day is next week, a week from this coming Friday. Get your candy and cards ready. Don’t say nobody told you.
