A 19-year-old man fleeing police was shot at by Huntington Beach officers during a pursuit early Thursday morning. He was not hit, but was arrested.

According to Officer Angela Bennett of the HBPD, the incident started around 2:50 a.m. when a patrolman initiated a stop on a vehicle without license plates in the area of Adams Avenue and Bushard Street.

The vehicle, later determined to be stolen, didn’t stop and a pursuit ensued.

From there, the chase continued to the intersection of Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway where the driver – later identified as Qyon McCode – lost control of his vehicle and it collided with one of the pursuing police units.

The driver then fled on foot toward the beach. A passenger in the vehicle was arrested at the scene.

A foot pursuit continued as the suspect ran onto the sand towards the ocean. During the chase, “an officer-involved shooting” occurred. The suspect was not struck and was arrested. A knife was later found at the scene and no officers were injured.
