A three-year-contract with Westminster Adoption Group and Services – popularly known as WAGS – for animal shelter services was approved by the Westminster City Council on Wednesday night.
On a 5-0 vote, the council decided to award the pact for three fiscal years – 2020 to 2023 – in the amount of $550,000 for the first year with two option-year renewals.
A 2 percent annual increase to the contract price would go into effect at the start of each fiscal year, beginning on July 1, 2021.
The decision was a triumph for a campaign by friends and supporters of WAGS, who lobbied and argued that the current contract holder – since 2016 – would be a better choice that its sole rival, Orange County Humane Society of Huntington Beach.
WAGS also holds the animal shelter contract for Stanton.
