The Garden Grove City Council meeting set for Tuesday, March 24 is going on as scheduled with one caveat: don’t show up.
In an alert that accompanied the agenda notice, the city is “strongly encouraging the public to view the meeting on television or online instead of attending in person,” due to the coronavirus threat.
Members of the public wishing to comment can do so by e-mailing cityclerk@ggcity.org .
Tuesday’s agenda is topped by a resolution ratifying the city manager’s proclamation declaring the existence of a local emergency due to the coronavirus.
The council will meet in its chambers in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. at 6:30 p.m. It will be televised on Channel 3A in Garden Grove and live-streamed at https://ggcity.org/cgi-bin/city_council/videos_and_agendas.cgi .
Diedre Nguyen edges further ahead
Garden Grove city council member Diedre Thu-Ha Nguyen has put herself a bit further ahead of incumbent Tyler Diep in the struggle for second place in the 72nd State Assembly District race.
As of the latest report on Friday of the Orange County Registrar of Voters, Nguyen had 30,011 votes to Diep’s 29,179. That’s a margin now of 832 votes, up from 778 last week.
Former state senator Janet Nguyen is comfortably ahead in first place with 39,769 votes, but the top two vote-getters will meet in November in the general election. Janet Nguyen and Diep are Republicans and Diedre Nguyen is a Democrat.
