Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in a fatal traffic accident Saturday night in Garden Grove that took the life of a 42-year-old Santa Ana man.

According to Master Officer Dan Mihalik of the GGPD’s Neighborhood Traffic Unit, the crash took place around 9:49 p.m. at Euclid and Main streets, near the Village Green park.

A witness told police that a vehicle struck the center divider and then a tree. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle.

Orange County Fire Authority paramedics responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police believe the vehicle was traveling southbound on Euclid and couldn’t make the curve in the road at Main Street. It struck the curb line, a city street sign, “multiple trees” and a concrete fixture.

The Orange County Coroner was at the scene and will conduct an autopsy later in the week to determine the cause of death, but alcohol is believed to have contributed to the incident.

  1. This sounds insensitive.
I’m old, don’t care. I pissed that he hurt our trees.
