Positivity rate for COVID-19 rising

SUNDAY’S COUNT of confirmed coronavirus cases was reported by the OCHCA at 663 (EpicTop10.com)

The “positivity” rate of coronavirus tests for Orange County continues to climb with the latest numbers for Sunday, July 5.

According to the county health care agency, the rate is now at 14 percent, which refers to the proportion of people tested who have tested positive for the infection, even if they have no symptoms.

That’s almost twice the accepted threshold of 8 percent. It compares to 12.9 percent in Friday’s report.

The daily count of new COVID-19 cases is at 663, bringing the cumulative total for the OC to 16,854, of which 8,350 are judged to have recovered. Three new deaths were reported, and the total of fatalities is now at 366 for the county.

The total number of people currently hospitalized has risen to 624 and the number of those in intensive care units is at 197.

The city counts show Santa Ana with 3,412 cases and 96 deaths, followed by Anaheim with 3,087 and 91 deaths, Garden Grove with 909 and 10, Huntington Beach with 812 and 40 and Orange with 759 and 15.

Westminster has 324 cases and 10 deaths; Stanton has 197 and three fatalities.
